Quick Campsite Meal
Easy, Healthy and Delicious Campsite Meal
I’m probably going to catch some slack from the hardcore gourmet campsite cooks out there for even writing this, BUT I don’t care. This campsite meal is quick, easy, delicious and actually healthy for you. The best part is that you only have one pot to clean when you’re done, and after a long day of hiking, climbing, mountain biking or whatever awesome outdoor activity you just finished………you can be stuffing your face in approx 5 minutes, while everyone else is still trying to get a fire started.
I am also aware of the fact that this campsite meal borders on not even being classified as “cooking”. It’s more like “heating up”, but hey, let’s look at this like a fancier version of college dorm room cooking. So, enough with the excuses and apologies, let’s get down to the details.
- Heat up water and bring to a boil; Insert your fancy version of Ramen. No these aren’t the ones you buy in a 100 pack at Costco, and that barely pass for food. These are the new Lotus Foods Rice Ramens. They have Millet and Brown Rice as well as Black Rice. This is a major break-through in campsite cooking, as Rice takes a long time, and completely crustifies (if that’s a word) your pot for the remainder of the trip. Now you have Rice, in noodle form, what a revelation!
- Heat up pan with a little coconut oil; If you’re feeling extra ambitious and motivated, I like to saute some mushrooms and kale first. Then simply add your pack or two of Tasty Bite Indian Cuisine. Voila! Mix with the noodles and you’re done. Let me just say that at first glance these packets of Indian Food are screaming “unhealthy”. But you will be surprised by the ingredients. It’s real food. Nothing is in there that you can’t understand or spell. Just vegetables, water, oil, and various spices. No preservatives, MSG, etc. I love this company.
- Eat: Use chopsticks if you’re not that hungry, or use a fork if you’d like to get food into your mouth. Be the envy of all your campsite buddies that are either eating some freeze dried packet of backpacker (gag) food, or are laboring over the fire to eventually burn a hot dog. Bon apetit!
- Clean: wipe down the one bowl you used and put it neatly back into your Adventure Tow camper rental. Sit by the fire and relax.
